36 quintals of paddy seized

In an action against illegal storage of paddy in Chhattisgarh, the police in Mahasamund district on Friday seized 36 quintal paddy from two persons. A paddy-laden tractor without registration number was intercepted near a culvert at Kudaribahra village in Basna area, Mahasamund Superintendent of Police Raesh Kukreja said. Ajay Bariha (20) and Hemant Sao (21), both from Hadapathra village, failed to produce any documents or token for the 36 quintals of paddy stuffed in 90 gunny bags. The paddy was seized and handed over to the Food Department. The Chhattisgarh government has procured 121.47 lakh tonnes of paddy from 22.24 lakh registered farmers on minimum support price till Friday. The government has to procure about 130 lakh tonnes of paddy for the kharif marketing year 2023-24.
