Energy-efficient initiatives stressed to protect environment

  • | Saturday | 27th January, 2024

Officials of the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) on Thursday stressed the need for energy-efficient initiatives to save the environment. They said this at a stakeholders meeting in Raipur. Officials from the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Co Ltd (CSPDCL) were present. For this, a State Energy Conservation Building Code has been prepared. It is applicable to buildings with a total built-up area of more than 1,000 square metres or a connected load of 50 kilowatt. This code will also encourage the use of renewable energy. The notification for this is underway. CREDA Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Singh Rana said: The energy consumption of buildings constructed as per this code can be reduced by 25 to 30 percent. This can save about three crore units of electricity every year. "This must be included in the building rules, building permission process and SOR." CSPDCL Managing Director Manoj Khare said: Carbon emissions are already high since Chhattisgarh exports electricity to many other states. To save our environment, energy efficient initiatives need to be implemented in various sectors like industries, transport, municipalities and more.
