Security forces have busted a Maoist camp in Chhattisgarhs Bastar division following two seperate encounters and recovered Maoists materials, police said on Thursday. A joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Bijapur and Dantewada, both units of state police, Special Task Force (STF) and 202nd battalion of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of CRPF, launched an anti-Naxal operation in the area on Tuesday following a tip about the presence of 70-80 Maoists of Gangalur Area Committee of the outlawed Maoist group in the hills of Pidiya and Itawar villages in the Bijapur-Dantewada borders, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav said. Sensing the presence of the patrolling team, Maoists on Wednesday opened indiscriminate fire on security personnel in a hilly forest near Itawar village prompting them to retaliate. However, they managed to escape from the spot. Another face-off took place near the jungles of Lendra-Korcholi villages when the security forces were returning. After a skirmish, the Maoists escaped and left behind their belongings. The team busted a Maoist camp there.  Maoist uniforms, a solar plate, medicines and daily use items were recovered from the hideout during searching.
