Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday announced Rs 5,500 per standard bag price for tendu leaves. This was a hike of Rs 1,500 per standard bag from the earlier price of Rs 4,000 per standard bag. He made the announcement at the Jangal-Jatra programme at Vikas Nagar stadium in Kondagaon district headquarters. The announcement, to be implemented from the coming financial year 2024-25, would benefit the tribal population of Bastar and Surguja. This was a fulfillment of yet another Modi guarantee promised during Assembly polls. A financial burden of Rs 240 crore will be incurred by the state exchequer with the hike in the price of tendu leaves, he said. The Chief Minister also announced restarting the Charan Paduka scheme in which free of cost footwear was provided to tendu leave pluckers. He also announced the launch of a social security scheme for the tendu leave pluckers.
