MoU to set up compressed biogas plants in Raipur, Bhilai

An MoU was signed between the Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd and the Raipur and Bhilai Municipal corporations on Wednesday to set up two urban solid waste-based compressed biogas plants. Chief Executive Officer of Chhattisgarh Bio Fuel Development Authority Sumit Sarkar, Bharat Petroleum Corp Chief General Manager Anurag Saravangi and Raipur and Bhilai Municipal Corporation Commissioners Avinash Mishra and Devesh Kumar Dhruv signed the MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao. On this occasion, Sai said: Compressed biogas is a key step towards a clean city and clean energy. About 200 to 250 tonnes of urban solid waste will be used daily for the production of biofuels in the two plants. They will generate about 60,000 man days of employment annually." The plants will have organic fertiliser as a co-product to encourage organic farming. The Bharat Petroleum Corp will invest about Rs 100 crore.
