Rajkot: A video showing two men being thrashed by a mob at Okha railway station went viral on Thursday. Devbhoomi Dwarka police have also termed the message as misleading and said that action would be taken against those sending such messages. The complaint in the case has been lodged by Bharatbha Manek (32), a resident of Bhunga area of Okha, who is an eye witness to the crime.The attack was the result of a WhatsApp message about a gang from outside Gujarat abducting children and selling off their organs going viral on social media across Saurashtra.Police said that they two men, were found begging outside the Okha railway station and people suspected them to be child kidnappers. When a group of men confronted the victims, they could not give proper reply, following which, they were punched, kicked and brutally beaten up by the accused.According to police the men were speaking in Hindi and are believed to be from Madhya Pradesh. Police added that process to ascertain the identities of the two victims was on.The message on social media stated that the gang consisting 300 members were on the prowl in Saurashtra, targeting children. “Jamnagar superintendent of police Pradeep Sejul termed the message as false and warned people against it, requesting them not to heed to such messages and circulate them,” said Okha marine police station sub-inspector V M Jhala.Sejul had told reporters in Jamnagar that the police had not found any such gang abducting children operating in the district and that the message being circulated was fake. Devbhoomi Dwarka police have also termed the message as misleading and said that action would be taken against those sending such messages.
