Inter-faith couple that eloped from Vadali traced to Mumbai

Palanpur: The inter-faith couple that had eloped from Vadali town of Sabarkantha Friday last, were traced to Mumbai by the local police.
People from Jain community and other Hindu organizations held protest rally in Idar town and gave a memorandum to the deputy collector there.
Superintendent of police Saurabh Singh said that the couple was traced to Mumbai and were being brought to Vadali.The incident came to light when the couple sent WhatsApp messages with their marriage certificate and photos.
A Jain community leader Bantibhai Mehta had questioned the legality of marriage certificate and claimed it to be bogus.On Monday too, shops and establishments belonging to Jain community in Vadali town remained closed.
Tension prevailed in the small north Gujarat town after the couple — Shahir Mansuri (32), who is married with two children, and Riya Mehta (22), a Jain — eloped and got married last week.
