Rajkot: Puna Nanadani and his family were in for a shock when a two-year-old female lion cub entered their cattle shed at Khambhalia village in Malia Hatina taluka of Junagadh in the wee hours of Saturday. A female member of the family, in panic Forest officials said the cub had got separated from its pride, which was hunting near the village, which is in the forest area.According to forest department officials, a pride of six lions — three lioness and three cubs — was sighted near Khambhalia village, recently. The pride had also preyed on a cow and a calf.One cub, about two years old, got separated from the pride and entered the cattle shed outside Nandania’s house at 3.45am on Saturday.“As the cub entered the shed, the people in the house panicked and one of them went and locked the shed from the outside and called the forest department. A team patrolling the area rushed to the village and rescued the cub,” said Sunil Berwal, deputy conservator of forests (DCF), Junagadh.It took the forest department team four hours to tranquillize and cage the cub. The cub was taken to Amrapar Animal Rescue Centre for treatment.Mangrol Range Forest Officer (RFO) Ruchi Dave said, “Our team is trying to locate the cub’s pride. Once we get it, the cub will be reunited with the pride.”
