Ahead of Eid, communal clash breaks out in Mandvi village

Complainant Mubarak Hussain alleged that the mob attacked the people of his community and four persons were injured.He named Jago Gadhvi, Dhruv Gadhvi, Hardas Gadhvi, Ratan Gadhvi and Punshi Gadhvi in the complaint. The situation is peaceful and both the groups are willing to settle the issue amicably though cross-complaints have been lodged.” Those injured were Mubarak Hussain, Ismail Hussain, Ishaque Hussain, Umar Hussain and Gani Hussain.In the cross-complaint, Hardas Gadhvi said that as per village traditions, there is an understanding that loudspeakers should not be used by anyone if someone had died. He said they only went to the mosque to request them not to use the loudspeaker for Azaan.

Rajkot: Barely a day before Bakri Eid festivities, groups of two communities clashed in a village of Mandvi taluka in Kutch on Monday night, leaving five persons injured.The violence erupted over rendering of azaan (the call for namaz) at the mosque in Kathda village. According to a complaint lodged by a member of Gadhvi family, use of loud speaker is prohibited in the event of a death in the village according to the rules.Another group also lodged a complaint with Mandvi police station early on Tuesday morning saying that a person from Gadhvi family came to the mosque at around 9:30pm and raised objection to the Azaan. However, the verbal altercation snowballed into a violent fight when about 30-35 people armed with pipes and sharp weapons gathered outside the mosque. Complainant Mubarak Hussain alleged that the mob attacked the people of his community and four persons were injured.He named Jago Gadhvi, Dhruv Gadhvi, Hardas Gadhvi, Ratan Gadhvi and Punshi Gadhvi in the complaint. He said they only went to the mosque to request them not to use the loudspeaker for Azaan. Gadhvi alleged that Mubarak Hussain and others got agitated and attacked them with pipes and other weapons.Mandvi police inspector M R Gameti said, “We have deployed adequate police force in the village to avert any escalation of violence. The situation is peaceful and both the groups are willing to settle the issue amicably though cross-complaints have been lodged.”
