Two nabbed for promoting enmity

Rajkot: Two men from Jamnagar were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly promoting enmity between two communities by posting abusive messages and videos on social media. The accused sought apology from the people after they were made to do sit-ups in the main market area of Jamnagar. The accused were identified as Jitendra Harsoda (26) and Renish Patel (23), both belonging to the Leuva Patidar community.According to police, the duo went live on Facebook on September 9 and hurled abuses and expletives against Kadva Patidar community, trustees of temples at Sidhsar and Umiyadham.They also abused Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel, who is on an indefinite fast since August 25. Police said that the duo continued their broadcast for nearly two hours with couple of breaks.One Narbheram Moradiya (50), lodged a complaint against Harsoda and Patel accusing them of instigating people of two communities and trying to spread disharmony.Based on the complaint, police on Tuesday arrested the duo and charged them under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and under the Information Technology Act.The duo were on Tuesday paraded on the city roads where they were asked to seek apology from the citizens.
