Bhuj trust to set up agri mall for farmers

Rajkot: Soon, farmers in Bhuj and nearby villages will be able to purchase all the items required for their farm at one place. The initial cost to set up the facility is expected to be Rs 3 crore. However, while interacting with them we felt they were being cheated by traders when they went to buy farm-related goods. The Kutchi Leuva Patel Samaj, a charitable trust, will set up an agriculture mall that will act as a one-stop-shop for farmers for all their farm-related requirement like seeds, pesticides, manure and others.The facility will come up by this year end on Mundra Road and will be spread across 11,000 sq ft area. We have found that because of middlemen farmers have to pay 30% more than the actual rate.”He further explained that seeds and fertilizers will be purchased at bulk rate and sold to farmers, who will have to provide land documents to get the discount.

The goods will be 25%-30% cheaper than the prevailing market rates.Gopal Gorasia, trustee of the Kutchi Leuva Patel Samaj, said, “We will provide all necessary items like seeds, pesticides, fertilizer and pumps at no-profit no-loss basis.”Talking about the need for such a facility, Gorasia said, “We used to provide consultancy to farmers. However, while interacting with them we felt they were being cheated by traders when they went to buy farm-related goods. We have found that because of middlemen farmers have to pay 30% more than the actual rate.”He further explained that seeds and fertilizers will be purchased at bulk rate and sold to farmers, who will have to provide land documents to get the discount.
