Rajkot: A senior resident doctor of Rajkot Civil Hospital has been arrested for allegedly raping his junior.The lady doctor was allegedly raped by Sachin Singh (28), on the fifth floor of the hospital on the night of August 30. However, she did not lodge a police complaint fearing social stigma and alleged threats by the doctor.Both are students of surgery of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Medical College and residents of Ahmedabad.Singh, who is a native of Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh and settled in Ahmedabad, allegedly raped the 26-year-old subordinate when both were on duty. She was allegedly raped in a room behind the table of nursing staff which is used by doctors to rest.The junior resident doctor alleged in the complaint lodged with Pradhyumannagar police station that Singh threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed about the rape to anyone.Deputy commissioner of police zone-2 Manoharsinh Jadeja told media persons on Monday, “On Friday, the woman and her father came to meet the police commissioner. They had not lodged an FIR society backlash. However, we convinced them to lodged the complaint on Saturday and arrested Singh from his house in Ahmedabad.”Police is waiting for the woman’s medical report.The junior doctor’s parents approached Dr Jatin Bhatt, head of surgery department on September 2 and narrated the verbal and sexual harassment.College dean Dr. Yogesh Goswami said, “In her written complaint given to us, the junior resident doctor clearly stated that she was verbally and sexually harassed. We immediately called a meeting of gender harassment committee on September 4 in which Sachin Singh admitted to the sexual harassment. As per rule, we had suspended him on the same day for six months and reported to the state government.”Goswami said that the woman’s statement was recorded in the presence of her mother. “We were not told that she was raped. Had we known, we would have definitely informed the police.”
