Two big car dealers have agreed to support the initiative. The university claims it is the first in the state to launch a workshop of this kind to provide practical training throughout the year. H N Pandya, head of the department of electronics said, “Most service centres and big garages used to ignore our requests to accept our students as interns. So, we decided to create our own workshop so that students can get hands-on training throughout the year.”University sources said the students will be provided detailed training in automobile repairs – from fixing punctures of tubeless tyres to handling engine and wiring problems. Sources said the university will also request employees and the public to give old cars to the workshop for training.“We will give students an opportunity to “earn while you learn” and request staff members to give their cars to our students for repairing.
