Ceramic unit owner opens fire at labourers in leg

About 12 labourers led by Mishra and Sahi went to the factory premises and allegedly went on a rampage. In his complaint, Sahi alleged that Mishra was attacked with a bat by Jhalaria when the former had gone to demand payment for the labourers. One of the bullets hit labourer Rajkumar Pandit in his leg.“We have booked both the attacking labourers and Jhalaria for the crime. When the labourers rushed to Mishra’s rescue, Jhalaria allegedly opened fire at them. Jhalaria then took out his revolver and fired five rounds at them.

Rajkot: A labourer was shot in his leg when a factory owner opened fire at a group of labourers after he was attacked by them in Oram Ceramic Factory on Jetpar Road near Morbi on Thursday night.The incident occurred when an altercation broke out between factory owner Mahendra Jhalaria (40), a resident of Anupam Society on Ravapar Road locality in Morbi, and Hemant Mishra and Manish Sahi, both labour contractors.The altercation broke out over the issue of non-release of Rs 5 lakh payment due to labourers. About 12 labourers led by Mishra and Sahi went to the factory premises and allegedly went on a rampage. They first vandalized the security guard’s cabin and then they launched an attack on Jhalaria’s cabin.According to the complaint lodged by Jhalaria, the attackers first pelted stones at his cabin and then started beating him up with bats. Jhalaria then took out his revolver and fired five rounds at them. One of the bullets hit labourer Rajkumar Pandit in his leg.“We have booked both the attacking labourers and Jhalaria for the crime. While the labourers have been booked for attempt to murder and vandalisation, Jhalaria has been booked for attempt to murder and under the Indian Penal Code’s section of Arms Act,” sub-inspector of Morbi taluka police station S A Gohel said.Jhalaria has been booked on a complaint lodged by Sahi. In his complaint, Sahi alleged that Mishra was attacked with a bat by Jhalaria when the former had gone to demand payment for the labourers. When the labourers rushed to Mishra’s rescue, Jhalaria allegedly opened fire at them.
