Rajkot: A farmer, Dharmendrasinh Rana (35), attempted suicide at the Lakhtar mamlatdar’s office in Surendranagar district on Tuesday afternoon, demanding the release of irrigation water in the Narmada canal for the rabi crop.Rana, a resident of Devaliya village in Lakhtar, has sown cumin and wheat on his fields and wanted immediate release of irrigation water. They have made representations to government officials, but no action has been taken. Before he could set himself ablaze, staff members stopped him and called police.
