Rajkot: All 24 candidates of Vibrant panel led by V P Vaishnav won the election of Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) results of which were declared on Thursday.Vaishnav is most likely to take over as the new president of the trade organization. All the 11 members of the panel led by industrialist Samir Shah lost the polls.According to sources, the members were opposed to Shah who had to quit the president post after he was charged in a murder case of his employee. The caste factor also played an important role as Lohana and Jain traders decided to vote against Shah’s panel while Patidar businessmen had already declared support to Vaishnav, who hails from Patel community.Hitesh Bagdai, head of RCCI’s election committee said, “The election was held in a very cordial manner We now hope that the victorious panel members will work in the interest of trade and industry.”Vaishnav, who runs a stock broking firm, told TOI: “There are many pending works which our team will complete. This includes the inland container depot (ICD), pricing of newly declared GIDC land at Khirasara and other issues. We also plan to publicize our progress report every six months.”Parth Ganatra, who was vice president in the previous term, is likely to retain the position. “We want to make online the issuance of certificate of origin to exporters from all over Saurashtra. This facility is available in Ahmedabad and we want to start it in Rajkot.”
