Farmer immolates self after crop failure in Vanthli

Rajkot: One more farmer from Saurashtra ended life due to crop failure in Junagadh district on Thursday.According to police, Harsukh Aadeshna (55) immolated himself in his farm in Bantia village of Vanthli taluka of Junagadh. Police said that Aadeshna has three sons aged between 13 to 19 years. One suicide each was reported from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar districts. Police said that Aadeshna doused himself in kerosene and set himself ablaze.The family members have told the police that Aadeshna owned 16 bigha land and had cultivated cotton on it. But after his crop failed he was under pressure because of the rising debt.Police said that Aadeshna had taken loan of over Rs 10 lakh from two banks and was unable to pay it back.

But after his crop failed he was under pressure because of the rising debt.Police said that Aadeshna had taken loan of over Rs 10 lakh from two banks and was unable to pay it back. Since past two days he was not talking to family members. He was also avoiding food and was depressed. Police said that Aadeshna has three sons aged between 13 to 19 years. All are studying.With the death of Aadeshna, the toll of farmers, who have committed suicide due to crop failure, has mounted to 24 in Saurashtra since September 2018.On January 24, 50-year-old Savji Bhojani of Mota Rampar village of Padadhari taluka in Rajkot had immolated self after his crop failed.Earlier, Meraman Sida (27) in Nagadia village of Kalyanpur taluka in Devbhoomi Dwarka district had consumed poison and died in Porbandar Civil Hospital on January 9. While, on January 18, 22-year-old Ramesh Makwana, a farmer from in Rabarika village of Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar district had hanged himself at his house.Of the 24 farmer suicides reported since September 2018, six were reported from Amreli, four from Devboomi Dwarka and Surendranagar districts, three each from Rajkot and Junagadh district, and two from Porbandar. One suicide each was reported from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar districts.
