Gujarat: 7 get life term in honour killing case

A double murder case was registered with Kalyanpur police station and all the seven accused were arrested. Govind died on the spot while Puri died during treatment at a hospital two days later. They fell in love with each other got married against the wishes of their families.After four years of marriage, all the seven accused came to Govind’s farm and attacked the couple with axe, sticks and other farming equipment. RAJKOT: A session court of Khambhalia in Devbhumi Dwarka district on Tuesday convicted seven persons of a family and awarded them life imprisonment in a case of honour killing of a man and his wife in 2014.The accused had murdered Puri Chohan and her husband Govind Chohan on March 17 when they were working in their farm.The court convicted Puri’s father Jesa, her mother Kanta, her uncles Babu and Deva and cousins Manoj, Vanraj and Uji on Tuesday.The victim couple had a three-year-old daughter who is being raised by her uncle Hemant who is also the complainant and witness in the case.Assistant public prosecutor Lakhabhai Chavda told TOI that “We had produced 31 witnesses and medical papers as documents and demanded harsh punishment for the convicts.”After the hearing of both the sides, assistant sessions judge AM Shaikh convicted all the seven accused under IPC Section 302 (murder) and 447 (criminal trespass).According to the case detail, Puri and Govind were distant relatives.
