Jamnagar’s royal scion sends legal notice to ayurveda society

Rajkot: The controversy over razing decade-old shops opposite G G Hospital has escalated with Jam Saheb Shatrushalyjisinh, the scion of erstwhile royal family, slapping a legal notice to the trustees of Shree Gulabkunverba Ayurved Society, who want a commercial complex constructed at the site.Shatrushalyji has asked the society, which runs the famous Ayurveda University, to prove what legal authority they have to decide on building a commercial complex on the trust's land. He has also warned of taking the legal fight forward if the trustees fail to provide the necessary documents.Earlier, he had dashed off a letter to Jamnagar municipal commissioner, saying that the resolution of standing committee to allow commercial complex on the said land is illegal.Interestingly, the trust deed and other documents of Gulabkunverba Ayurveda Society, which is a charitable trust, are missing from the office of charity commissioner. In a reply to an RTI application, the office of charity commissioner accepted this fact.Shatrushalyji claimed in his notice that the land in question belongs to his father late Digvijaysinhji Jadeja. "It's resolute on April 12, 1948, that we are the owners of this land and it was given for the purpose of education till the college runs. We, therefore, have sought the documents from trustees by way of legal notice. We believe that the action of trustees and JMC is without any authority and if they fail to provide the papers, we will initiate legal action."Managing trustee of trust R K Shah said he hasn't seen the notice.
