Nine minor girls rescued from Odisha train

RANCHI/ROURKELA: Nine minor girls from West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) were rescued by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from Tatanagar-Allepey express at Rourkela railway station while they were being taken to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The girls had boarded the train from Tatanagar with five others.SP (Chaibasa) Kranti Kumar told TOI: "I have received the news of rescue of the children from Tatanagar-Allepey express. The GRP had received an intelligence input from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) that a group of labourers were being trafficked in the train. The team in Sundargarh is trying to figure out where the nine girls belong to. ""It is confirmed that all of them boarded the train from Tatanagar but it is not possible to say which particular part of the West Singhbhum district they belong to.

However, I have not been approached for the investigation yet. The team in Sundargarh is trying to figure out where the nine girls belong to.""It is confirmed that all of them boarded the train from Tatanagar but it is not possible to say which particular part of the West Singhbhum district they belong to. We will pitch in for the investigation once we are asked for the inputs," he added.The GRP have also arrested one K Silveraj (53) who was taking them to the southern state with the promise of engaging them in a cotton mill. The GRP had received an intelligence input from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) that a group of labourers were being trafficked in the train. The police found the group in the B2 and B3 air-conditioned coaches. "The nine minor girls were handed over to the child welfare committee while the rest of the people were advised to go home," said S Lakra, officer-in-charge of GRP in Rourkela.The child welfare committee (CWC), Sundargarh, will contact the CWC operating the children's native area in Jharkhand as well as the labour department to decide upon the future of the minor girls. "The labour department of Jharkhand and CWC of their locality will be informed before the children are handed over to their parents," CWC's Sundargargh chairperson Basant Mallick said. AGENCIES
