Suspected PLFI rebel lynched in Gumla for wife’s torture

Gumla: A suspected PLFI area commander, identified as Sandeep Gope (29), was lynched by Satpara villagers on Monday night, reportedly for torturing his wife, police said on Tuesday. As Sarita raised an alarm, a woman from her neighbourhood came to her rescue, but she was manhandled by Gope. This infuriated other villagers, who charged at Gope with lathis and beat him to death.Sinha said Gope’s body has been sent for post mortem. He added, “Gope has been torturing his wife for the last two months due to which there was already a dissent among the family members, particularly from his brothers. He added, “In 2015, Gope was arrested under the Arms Act.”

When asked about his PLFI links, superintendent of police ( Gumla ), A K Sinha, said Gope was only a criminal though villagers claimed that said Gope was actively working for the banned outfit till a few months ago.Police said around 18 villagers beat Gope to death after they saw him torturing his wife Sarita (24) and manhandling another woman at their home in Satpara, located about 14 km away from Gumla town. Sarita, who was injured when her deceased husband beat her, was admitted to Gumla sardar hospital along with her three-year-old daughter.In her statement to police, Sarita said her husband returned home around 7pm on Monday in a drunken state and started beating her over an argument. As Sarita raised an alarm, a woman from her neighbourhood came to her rescue, but she was manhandled by Gope. This infuriated other villagers, who charged at Gope with lathis and beat him to death.Sinha said Gope’s body has been sent for post mortem. He added, “Gope has been torturing his wife for the last two months due to which there was already a dissent among the family members, particularly from his brothers. Sarita also hailed from the same village.”Gumla police station in-charge, Rakesh Kumar, said an FIR has been filed against five persons on the basis of a complaint by the father of the deceased. He added, “In 2015, Gope was arrested under the Arms Act.”
