PLFI rebel killed in Khunti encounter

Ranchi: A PLFI rebel was killed in an encounter with the police at Merambir forest under Rania police station area of Khunti district around 6:45am on Thursday. Police said the deceased extremist is yet to be identified.Police have killed six PLFI members in encounter in the last 15 days. Khunti police are carrying out continuous operation to arrest the rebels members who fled after the encounter. Five PLFI extremists were killed during a gun battle under the Arki-Bandgaon police station area on January 29. There was an exchange for fire between police and the extremists for about an hour before the rebels fled.” Police carried out a search operation in the area after the encounter during which the body of an extremist along with arms and ammunition was recovered.

Police seized a German-made Heckler & Koch 33 (HK-33) rifle, a large number of cartridges, three bikes, a mobile phone and a bag from the spot.CRPF IG Sanjay Lathkar said: “A joint operation of Khunti police and the CoBRA was launched in the area after information regarding presence of PLFI supremo Dinesh Gope. There was an exchange for fire between police and the extremists for about an hour before the rebels fled.” Police carried out a search operation in the area after the encounter during which the body of an extremist along with arms and ammunition was recovered. Police said the deceased extremist is yet to be identified.Police have killed six PLFI members in encounter in the last 15 days.
