Ranchi-Tata highway work delay irks Jharkhand HC

RANCHI: The Jharkhand High court on Thursday took a strong exception to the delays made by NHAI in finalisation of tenders for the Ranchi-Tata highway . However, the bench, before issuing a written order, orally reprimanded the NHAI for the slow pace of work. On January 9, 2019 assistant solicitor general of India, Rajiv Sinha, had stated preliminary inquiry to arrive at a decision to register a formal FIR is on the verge of execution. “The court has asked us to submit further progress report on the issue during the next hearing scheduled on March 14,” CBI lawyer Rajiv Nandan said.The HC had ordered for CBI inquiry into the case on July 25, 2017. In its directive issued on January 7, the court had said the tender processes of the three projects for the highway should be finalised by February 14 so that execution of the work is not delayed any further.The three projects have been designed to construct 147.78 km road of the Ranchi-Tata highway.Meanwhile, CBI submitted an affidavit and a status report stating that the preliminary enquiry was in the last stages, adding that it required more time to complete the process.

The court also directed the CBI to explain the reason behind the delay in taking a final decision on the preliminary enquiry ordered by the court into alleged irregularities in the road construction work of the particular highway.While hearing the PIL WP (PIL) 3503/2014, a division bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary said as the NHAI representative have assured that the tenders process would be finalised in near future, the court adjourned the matter with no further comment.
