55 govt personnel medically unfit for poll duties in Palamu

Daltonganj: Fifty-five government personnel were found medically unfit among 149 applicants who had requested the district administration to exempt them from poll duty on health grounds, officials said. A six-member board evaluated the applications. The board comprised five doctors — Kalanand Mishra, R K Ranjan, Awadesh Singh, Rajesh, and Usha Kiran — and a magistrate, Shadan Nusrat. “Twenty-two trauma centres will also be set up for the elections,” Singh said, adding, “Seven private hospitals have also been roped in to tackle poll-related medical emergencies.” The district has 1,582 booths and 162 clusters.

The board declared its report on Sunday.Ranjan said, “Every application was meticulously evaluated and we took great care before certifying anyone fit or unfit.”Officials also added that along with the consignment of EVMs and VVPATs, medical kits will also be given to poll officials and security personnel. “Kits will be ready at least 10 days before the voting day on April 29,” a source said.Anil Kumar Singh, a senior doctor at sadar hospital in Daltonganj , said, “Each kit will have a minimum of 10 tablets for ailments like fever, vomiting, bleeding, acidity, cuts, among others.”Forty ambulances will be requisitioned during polling for medical exigencies and teams of doctors will also be deployed in clusters.
