Congress worker’s brother shot dead in Hindpiri

Ranchi: The brother of a Congress worker was shot dead around 200 metres from his home at Khet Mohalla locality under Hindpiri police station here on Tuesday morning. the brother of local Congress worker Adil Alam. The incident occurred when Shoaib with his friend Bholu got into an altercation with local youths Gugun and Kala Asif. In fit of rage, Gugun took out his country-made pistol and shot Shoaib. The incident occurred at a time when the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 in view of the Lok Sabha elections.

However, police claimed to have arrested the main accused, Gugun, and detained three others for questioning within two hours of the incident.The deceased has been identified as Shoaib Alam (26). the brother of local Congress worker Adil Alam. The incident occurred when Shoaib with his friend Bholu got into an altercation with local youths Gugun and Kala Asif. In fit of rage, Gugun took out his country-made pistol and shot Shoaib. When the victim was taken to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) doctors declared him brought dead.Shoaib’s cousin Mohammed Shahrukh said, “I was returning home from the mosque after offering prayers when I saw a commotion near Nizam Kabadi. On reaching the spot, I saw Shoaib lying in pool of blood on the ground. We immediately took to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.”He added, “A few youths from our locality, including Gugun and Kala Asif, are involved in the murder.”Around 50 youths from Hindpiri staged protest accusing police of negligence and failing to take action against anti-social elements despite repeated pleas. “Use of drugs and banned substance by youths in the area go unchecked. Those involved in Alam’s murder take drugs regularly. My brother Shoaib may have tried to stop these anti-social elements from distributing banned substances to children in the area,” Shoaib’s eleder brother Adil said.Several congress leaders went to Rims and took pot shots at the government over deteriorating law and order situation.SP (city) Sujata Veenapani said, “We have arrested the prime accused Gugun and detained three others, including Kala Asif, for interrogation . Further probe is on.” She added, “We been conducting crackdown against illegal arms dealers. In the last one week, we have detained three people for possessing illegal arms.”
