Daltonganj: Palamu deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Shantanu Kumar Agrahari on Tuesday released a one-minute rap song as part of an election awareness campaign to draw the first time voters. Agrahari also features in the video which asks voters from Palamu to exercise their franchise.Talking to TOI, Agrahari said: “It took us around 24 hours to prepare and record the song. The lyrics are motivational and urges voters to participate in the Lok Sabha elections which will be held here on April 29.”Written and performed in Hindi, the song uses the hook “Tu sochta hai kya, Tu dekhta hai kya (What are you thinking, what are you watching)” with an old-school hip hop rhythm running in the background. “The song can easily be converted into a Bhojpuri version. Since Palamu has a large number of speakers of the language, we will be translating it soon,” Agrahari said.Palamu resident Prem Prakash, who heard the song, said: “The song is apt to capture the attention of youngsters and first-time voters like us.”Agrahari added that the district will have 1,801 polling booths this year, which is 35% more than the 2014 general elections. Six out of these are auxiliary booths, the permission for which is still awaited. “I am confident that the Election Commission will allow us to operate auxiliary booths at six places as all of them can lessen the load on the primary booths by around 1,400 voters. It will make conducting the election an easier process,” he added.
