11k additional cops to keep vigil during Puja

Ranchi: The Jharkhand police headquarters has provided over 11,000 additional forces to the districts for maintaining law and order during Durga Puja. Besides, 580 police personnel have been allocated to the range deputy inspector generals (DIG). Each DIG will have a reserve of around 100 police, which would be rushed to the area that might face law-and-order issue. Police said 5,030 lathi wielding personnel, 4,975 home-guards, five companies of the Rapid Action Police (RAP), four tear gas squads, three bomb disposal squads, four Rapid Action Force companies, one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) company, and five Seema Suraksha Bal companies have been sent to the districts. Ranchi DIG Anoop Birtharay said, The allocation of additional forces to the districts was strategised based on their communal sensitivity, the popularity of Durga Puja celebrations and population. Ranchi has been provided with 1,000 additional personnel. The district has a reserve of 4,000 personnel. The forces along with magistrates would be deployed in the district during the Puja. The police would also maintain a vigil on the city with the help of CCTVs. Though 1,500 CCTV cameras have already been installed in various parts of the city, the administration has asked the puja pandals to set up the devices in and around their pandals too in order to keep surveillance on the crowd.The administration held meetings with the peace committees at district and the police station levels too for ensuring law and order during the festival. The stalls will also offer first aid services and wheelchair facilities. ADN has been running awareness campaigns in New Town to address increasing snakebite cases and deaths. They hope to capture the attention of pandal visitors, particularly those from districts with high snakebite incidences.
