In a landmark event held at Audrey House, Ranchi, the Behtar Jharkhand initiative announced the launch of its Ranchi Chapter, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards a more inclusive and culturally resonant development model for the state of Jharkhand. The launch event was graced by the esteemed presence of the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi, prominent members of the civil society, doctors, academicians, artists, entrepreneurs, and public representatives from local panchayats. Behtar Jharkhand represents a visionary endeavour, aiming to bridge the gap between the potential Jharkhand holds and its current developmental trajectory. It is a call to reimagine progress through the prism of tribal culture, ensuring that development is not only inclusive but also deeply respectful and integrative of the states rich heritage. At its core, this initiative seeks to rekindle the flame of hope that ignited the creation of Jharkhand, infusing it with renewed purpose and vitality. It advocates for a shift in perspective, viewing development through the nuanced lens of tribal culture, thereby unlocking sustainable growth models that resonate with the ethos of the land. During the event, the Chief Guest Babulal Marandi and Member of Parliament from Ranchi, Sanjay Seth felicitated exemplary tribal artisans from Jharkhand and its neighbouring states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Assam. Among those honoured were accomplished painters and textile craftsmen from Jharkhand, craftsmen specialising in Bamboo & Tumba from Chhattisgarh, artisans known for expertise in Grass & Palm leaf crafts from West Bengal, artisans recognised for their Applique work from Odisha, and several others. These artisans were honoured for their remarkable contributions. Through their success stories, they exemplified the potential for advancement and empowerment within tribal societies. These success stories offered valuable insights that could be adopted and implemented to further advance and empower tribal communities. In his address, Babulal Marandi lauded the initiative as a timely intervention crucial for framing a development strategy that can have a lasting positive impact on the lives of the people of Jharkhand. He highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the Central Government for the upliftment of the state, including the recently launched Vishwakarma Scheme, which has significantly benefited the local artisans being felicitated at the event. Shri Babulal Marandi further emphasised the importance of learning from the diverse tribal identities across states and proposed the creation of a tribal cultural corridor as an innovative approach to foster shared growth. Ajay Arjit Singh, representing Craft Maestros an institution working with tribal artisans, shared inspiring stories of tribal entrepreneurship from Jharkhand and neighbouring states, showcasing the potential of culturally appropriate development models. These stories not only celebrate success but also pave the way for replicable models of growth rooted in tribal traditions and values. While addressing the audience, Vivek Singh, one of the Convenors of Behtar Jharkhand, reflected on the states journey and the vision of the initiative to close the gap between what Jharkhand could be and its current state. This vision is founded on the principle of integrating tribal culture into the development narrative to ensure that progress is both equitable and sustainable. He emphasised, "In our quest for progress, we must weave the rich tapestry of tribal culture into the fabric of Jharkhands development. It is not just about bridging the gap between our potential and our reality; it is about crafting a future that honours our heritage, ensuring that growth is not only equitable but sustains the soul of our land."
