C-Vigil App: Report violations, action assured within 100 minutes

  • | Wednesday | 17th April, 2024

In a bid to ensure an independent, transparent, and fair electoral process, the Election Commission has introduced the C-Vigil mobile app, empowering citizens to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha elections 2024. This initiative underscores the importance of voter vigilance in upholding the integrity of democratic elections. The C-Vigil app enables common citizens to lodge complaints about any breaches of the Model Code of Conduct swiftly and efficiently. Users can download the app from the mobile play store or app store and submit live photos or videos as evidence of misconduct. Importantly, individuals have the option to remain anonymous when filing complaints, although providing a name and mobile number allows for monitoring of the complaints progress within the app. The Election Commission emphasizes that personal details of complainants remain confidential and are not disclosed to the public. Voters are urged to actively participate in the electoral process by serving as the "eyes, nose, and ears" of the Commission, contributing to a fair and transparent election environment. Upon receipt of a complaint, the Election Commission commits to prompt action, with a stringent time frame of 100 minutes for processing. Once a complaint is lodged, the nearest Flying Squad Team (FST) is dispatched by the Returning Officer to investigate the reported violation. Following preliminary verification, the complaint is forwarded to the Returning Officers portal for further review and resolution. The scope of complaints eligible for submission through the C-Vigil app is broad, encompassing various forms of electoral misconduct. Common grievances include instances of money distribution, gift/coupon distribution, liquor distribution, and the unauthorized distribution of campaign materials. Additionally, complaints can pertain to unauthorized poster or banner placement, unpermitted campaign meetings, and the use of religious or inflammatory rhetoric to influence voters. The C-Vigil app represents a pivotal tool in upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring electoral integrity. By empowering citizens to report violations and facilitating swift action, the Election Commission underscores its commitment to a free and fair electoral process. As the nation gears up for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, citizens are encouraged to utilize the C-Vigil app to uphold the sanctity of democratic governance.
