School timings changed till June 15 due to intense heat wave in State

In view of the persisting heat wave conditions prevailing across the State, the School Education and Literacy Department has issued an order on June 9 to all schools in Jharkhand regarding the modification of timings. As per the directive issued by Nandkishore Lal, Joint Secretary Education Department, till June 15 classes for KG to standard 12 will now be conducted from 7 am to 11:30 am. After this date the schools can operate as per their pre- determined time. The change in school timings will be applicable in all government, non- government aided, unaided, minority and private institutions. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in 21 districts including Ranchi is beyond 40 degree Celsius and heat wave alert have been issued across the State. From June 11 to June 14, the MET Centre, Ranchi has issued an orange alert depicting severe heat wave conditions for districts namely Garwah, Palamu, Chatra, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka and Godda. A yellow alert for heat wave in Koderma, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Ranchi , Gumla, Khunti, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Simdega has been issued.  As per the weather bulletin released on June 10 by the MET Observatory Centre- Ranchi, the maximum temperature in the State was recorded at Daltonganj at 45 degree Celsius which is 5.1 degrees above normal. Jamshedpur and Bokaro were recorded at 42 and 41.5 degree Celsius which is 4.3 and 1.3 degrees above normal. Ranchi was observed at 40.3 degree Celsius which is 4.6 degrees above normal whereas Chaibasa was 3.8 above normal at 40.4 degree Celsius. A trough passing from north western parts of Bihar to Nagaland is likely to have slight effects on the weather in Jharkhand as well. Parts of southern Jharkhand are likely to witness light rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lighting on June 11. North east and south east Jharkhand may also witness light showers during the second half of the day on June 12. On June 13 and June 14 districts in north east, central and south Jharkhand  are expected to experience light rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lighting, Director MET Centre, Ranchi Abhishek Anand There is also a prediction of cloudy skies in various parts of the State June 13 onwards especially for the second half of the day. Gusty winds with speed of up to 30 to 40 km per hour may also occur. As per the communiqué, from June 11 to June 14 the maximum temperature in Ranchi and its surrounding areas will be around 42 degree Celsius.
