District Admin initiates inquiry into OAH death incident

  • | Friday | 14th June, 2024

Preliminary inquiry into four deaths  at government owned old age home(OAH) located at Sabalpur in Dhanbad indicate that the management had kept no health record of those who died here.  It may be recalled  that four deaths were reported in two days here and the outsourced operators of this old age home cremated the four bodies without informing the District Social Welfare officer (DSWO) who happens to be the nodal officer of this old age home. The inquiry conducted by the DSWO Anita Kujur was submitted to district administration on Wednesday after the incident came to fore. Those who died include Bhaskar Chakorvarti (85), Meenu Bhatttcharya (84), Yamuna Devi (85) and Bulu Chokorvorty (72). Meanwhile, deputy development commissioner (DDC) Sadat Anwar said the process of serving show cause to  the operator of the OAH  has been initiated. More can  be said on this issue only after we get a reply from the OHA operator. The operator took over management of  the OAH in August 2023. Incidentally, he also operates one private OAH in Tundi block.
