Former MP accuses officials of BJP Mentality in controversial demolition orders

  • | Tuesday | 16th July, 2024

Former MP and Congress leader Dr. Ajoy  Kumar has issued a stern warning to district officers, urging them not to operate with a "BJP mentality." In a press release on Monday, Dr. Kumar accused officers of conspiring with opposition parties to defame the India Alliance government of Jharkhand. He asserted that such conspiracies would fail and assured that action would be taken against those involved. Dr. Kumar emphasized that the Chief Minister is committed to seeking legal advice on this matter, ensuring that the homes of residents in Bhuiyadih, Kalyan Nagar, Indira Nagar, and Chhaya Nagar will not be demolished.   Dr. Kumar highlighted the ongoing efforts of the coalition government of JMM and Congress to enhance the standard of living for women, youth, and common people in Jharkhand. He expressed concern that the opposition, frustrated by the success of the India Alliance, is attempting to defame the government and incite public unrest.   The controversy arose when the Jamshedpur Zonal Officer issued notices to demolish 150 houses located on the riverbank, affecting areas including Bhuiyandih, Kalyan Nagar, Indira Nagar, and Chhaya Nagar under the Sitaramdera police station. This decision has sparked fear among residents. Dr. Kumar questioned the basis of the order, purportedly given by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), noting that officials failed to provide a factual and satisfactory explanation.   Dr. Kumar revealed that upon learning about the issue, he promptly wrote a letter to the Chief Minister and spoke with him directly, urging immediate intervention. The Chief Minister assured that no poor persons house would be demolished under the current government. Dr. Kumar also engaged with the district administration, which cited NGTs orders as the reason for identifying the 150 houses. However, the lack of clear answers regarding the basis of NGTs decision has raised suspicions.   In response, Dr. Kumar has demanded a comprehensive explanation from the Deputy Commissioner, seeking clarity on the joint survey conducted by the Water Resources Department, Mango Municipal Corporation, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, and District Administration. He questioned whether the NGT had defined the river boundary for these areas and requested a copy of any such notification. Dr. Kumar also called for all NGT rules and standards related to issuing notices to residents in these areas.   Dr. Kumar criticized the zonal office officials for their inability to provide proper answers, suggesting that their actions reflect a BJP-influenced mentality aimed at harassing the poor and middle class and discrediting the government. He reiterated his commitment to protecting the residents homes, stating that he had assured them during a meeting on Saturday that not a single house would be demolished.
