For the effective prevention of mosquito-borne diseases during the monsoon season this year, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has been mobilising its efforts across all 53 wards in the City. During the monsoon season, a drive to curb diseases has been started from July 2. Efforts to control an outbreak of vector borne diseases is carried out all through the year, they are just intensified during the rainy season. At Present, there are eight teams which are doing door to door surveillance in all the wards and are also creating awareness amongst the residents regarding these diseases. Spraying of larvicide and pesticide for adults mosquitoes is also being carried out on a regular basis, said Dr Kiran Kumari, Assistant Public Health Officer. The civic body has deployed four personnel with knapsack spray machines in every ward to spray larvicide in all drains. As many as eight teams and a rooster have also been dedicated to ensure that every area in the City is covered. Pamphlets are also being distributed among the residents in all the wards. The teams have been instructed to visit every house covering roughly about 15- 20 houses per day and check for any abandoned garages, stagnant water in utensils or broken pots, unused tyres, destroy larvae and also create awareness among the people. A surveillance with the Health Department has also been started to keep a check on diseases like dengue, chikungunya and other vector borne diseases. A weekly report is also being taken from Sadar Hospital and RIMS regarding dengue and chikungunya. So far no cases have been reported in the City, added the official.
