On the occasion of National Dengue Day a special public awareness campaign was run across the state today for protection from dengue. The objective of National Dengue Day is to make the public aware about the safety and prevention from dengue and to change their behavior for better health. Dengue is an infectious disease like a viral and severe flu, which spreads due to the bite of infected Aedes mosquito. Aedes mosquitoes thrive in clean and stagnant water. With the arrival of rains, the possibility of dengue infection increases. This year the theme of National Dengue Day is - Take early action, prevent dengue, healthy environment, healthy life. The objective of this theme is to raise awareness about effective measures to protect against dengue and to keep cleanliness around you and make life healthy. On the occasion of National Dengue Day, a national webinar was organized in Delhi under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, in which other states apart from Jharkhand also participated. Apart from this, inter-departmental programs were organized for protection from dengue in most of the districts of the state. Seminars were organized for cooperation. National Dengue Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the state today and efforts were made to spread awareness through various activities for the prevention and control of dengue. There is no vaccination to prevent dengue, we can remain safe from dengue only by public awareness and by eliminating the breeding source of mosquitoes. For public awareness, village seminars, Prabhat Pheri, rally, students and health workers took a pledge to take precautions and measures for protection from dengue and to inspire others for the same. Students were made aware and rewarded through quiz and drawing competitions in schools, so that their family members can also be made aware through them. Publication of messages in newspapers and discussions through various radio channels and Doordarshan were done to spread awareness for the prevention of dengue. Hoardings, banners, flexes, posters have been put up at public places in urban and rural areas and people have been told through wall writing that the big threat of dengue can be easily prevented by taking small precautions. If symptoms of dengue are seen or there is fever, then inform your doctor. Go to the nearest government hospital, there the arrangement for testing and treatment is free. For the facility of free testing and treatment of dengue and chikungunya, six sentinel sites of the state were available in RIMS Ranchi, Sadar Hospital Ranchi, MGMM Jamshedpur, PMCH Dhanbad and DPHL Chaibasa, DPHL Sahebganj. Apart from this, in the year 2024, eight new sentinel sites AIIMS Deoghar, DPHL Dumka, DPHL Chaibasa, DPHL Hazaribagh, DPHL Palamu, DPHL East Singhbhum, DPHL Godda and DPHL Simdega have been identified. Thus, at present a total of 14 sentinel sites are working in the state, where free testing and treatment of dengue and chikungunya is available. Our state is constantly making efforts to control dengue, as a result of which 10.68 percent dengue patients were found in the year 2024 as compared to 12.42 percent dengue patients in the year 2023, who are now completely treated. There were four deaths due to dengue in the year 2023, but no one has died in the year 2024. Thus the number of dengue patients is decreasing every year, the mortality rate from dengue is zero and we are slowly moving towards dengue control.
