Health Minister vows action against fake medicines in State

  • | Thursday | 22nd May, 2025

The state government has now taken strict action against the business of fake medicines in Jharkhand. State Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has made it clear that those who play with the health of the public will not be spared, be it a drug mafia or a corrupt officer. Dr. Ansari said that now QR code will become the wall between fake and real medicine. The government has taken a big initiative and made QR code mandatory for 300 important medicines. Now major medicines like painkillers, fever medicines, platelet increasing medicines, sugar and thyroid medicines, contraceptives and vitamin supplements will not be sold in the market without QR code. This code will give information about the real identity, manufacturer, batch number; manufacturing and expiry date of every medicine – so that fake medicine can be identified immediately. Clear instructions have been given to all medical shops that if any medicine without registration is found, then the license of the shop will be cancelled immediately. Dr. Ansari said that codeine and alcohol found in many cough syrups being sold in the market are pushing the youth into addiction. This cough syrup has become poison in the name of medicine, which is causing serious damage to the brain and liver. The minister said that the young generation is being destroyed by misusing cough syrup, which will be stopped at all costs. All medical shops have been instructed that selling this syrup without a valid doctors prescription will be a crime, and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits. All the drug inspectors of the state have been instructed to investigate with full honesty and integrity. Direct action will be taken if fake medicine is found. The Health Minister said that the officers who have been entrenched at the same place for years are spoiling the system. Now they will be transferred. There is no place for collusion and corruption.   Soon, state-of-the-art food and medicine testing labs will be established in Dumka, Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Palamu. Now the reports of medicines and food items will be available in the state itself – without delay, without any confusion. The Health Minister clarified that the food products being sold in all big malls, hotels and restaurants will be checked. Immediate raids and legal action will be taken against those who adulterate food items, ignore expiry and quality.
