MET Centre issues yellow alert till May 29 for State

Light to moderate rain, thunderstorm and lighting as well as strong winds are likely to continue in various parts of the State till the end of the month. As per the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, on May 24, there are chances of thunderstorm, lighting and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 to 50 km per hour at Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur and Sahibganj. On May 25, widespread rainfall of light to moderate category is being predicted across the State. Parts of northwest Jharkhand may have thunderstorm and lighting along with winds with speed of up to 30 to 40 km per hour while the remaining parts of Jharkhand are likely to have gusty winds with a speed of approximately 40 to 50 km per hour. On May 26 and May 27 some places across the State are likely to witness light to moderate rain while a yellow alert stating strong winds of speed up to 40 to 50 km per hour has also been issued. As per the bulletin, light to moderate widespread rain is on the cards for May 28 and May 29 along with thunderstorm, lighting and gusty winds with a speed of around 40 to 50 km per hour. There is incoming moisture in the State because an east to west trough which is extending from Punjab to north Bangladesh and is passing through the northern parts of Jharkhand is causing thunderstorm and lighting activity is parts of north and central Jharkhand. Due to this, first half of the day is mostly hot while in the second half thunder clouds that are formed causes thunderstorms accompanied with strong winds. In this regard, a yellow alert has been issued till May 29, said MET Centre Director, Abhishek Anand. Monsoon generally hits Jharkhand about 10 to 12 days after it lands in Kerala. As per predictions, this year monsoon is likely to land in Kerala by May 25 and it may hit Jharkhand around June 5 to June 7. As per the current weather conditions, monsoon may hit the State early, added the official. As per the data released on Friday evening, in the last 24 hours, the maximum amount of rainfall was recorded in Latehar which is 42.5 mm. In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Daltonganj at 37.3 degree Celsius followed by Bokaro and Jamshedpur at 35.1 and 34.3 degree Celsius respectively. The State capital was observed at 31.3 degree Celsius. From May 24 to May 27, the maximum temperature in the State capital and its surrounding areas is likely to be around 31 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 22 degree Celsius.
