India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather advisories for Jharkhand and neighboring regions following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. This development, observed at 8:30 am on May 27, is under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation that could intensify further in the coming days. According to meteorological data, the cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure system extends up to 7.6 kilometers above mean sea level, tilting southwards with increasing height — a typical sign of atmospheric instability that can contribute to persistent rainfall and gusty winds. The system is projected to move northwards slowly and is expected to become more marked over the next 48 hours, which could lead to enhanced weather activity across several eastern and central Indian states. In addition to the coastal system, a trough line currently stretches from Southeast Rajasthan to North Chhattisgarh, cutting through the central parts of western Madhya Pradesh at an altitude of 0.9 kilometers above mean sea level. This additional atmospheric feature is expected to further amplify convection and instability, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms and localized heavy rainfall. May 29: A surge in thunderstorm activity is expected, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph at isolated locations. The northeastern and southeastern parts of the state are likely to experience heavy downpours, prompting authorities to advise caution, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying zones. May 30: The unsettled weather pattern will likely continue, with thunderstorms and lightning affecting isolated areas. Rainfall intensity may remain significant, especially over the northeastern belt, increasing the potential for short-term inundation in urban pockets. May 31: The state is expected to witness a continuation of thunderstorm activity with sporadic lightning, mainly impacting isolated regions. While rainfall intensity may reduce slightly, precaution is still warranted due to ground saturation and ongoing instability. The IMD and local administration have urged citizens to remain vigilant and stay tuned to official weather bulletins for real-time updates. Commuters are advised to avoid traveling during peak storm hours, especially on open roads and under large trees. Farmers are also encouraged to take protective measures for their standing crops and farm assets in anticipation of gusty winds and heavy rains. Urban residents in cities like Jamshedpur, Ranchi, and Dhanbad are advised to secure loose items on rooftops and balconies, avoid parking under trees, and ensure clear drainage channels to prevent waterlogging. Disaster response teams across the state have been put on alert mode, with district control rooms being instructed to closely monitor evolving weather conditions.
