SAIL-RSP receives International Safety Award from British Safety Council

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has been honoured with the prestigious International Safety Award under the Merit category by the British Safety Council. The award recognises RSPs exemplary commitment to health, safety, and employee wellbeing throughout 2024.   The award was presented on 29 May 2025 at a ceremony held at JW Marriott, Mumbai, by Jonathan Gawthrop, Trustee and Board Member of the British Safety Council. Asha S Kartha, CGM, Safety and Fire Services, received the award on behalf of RSP.   This international recognition highlights RSPs proactive safety culture, robust protocols, and consistent efforts to maintain a safe working environment aligned with global best practices. RSP has pursued its Zero Harm goal through initiatives like Project Nischay, which involved comprehensive surveys and awareness campaigns to identify and bridge safety gaps.   As a result, the plant has achieved 665 fatality-free days till date, including the entire financial year 2024–25. Its Reportable Loss Time Frequency Rate (RLTFR) stood at 0.0165 in 2024–25—SAILs best and significantly better than the industry benchmark of 0.08.   Alok Verma, Director In-Charge of RSP, also holding additional charge of Durgapur and Burnpur Steel Plants, congratulated the collective and stated, Every person entering the plant deserves to return home safely. Safety is not a check box; it is a covenant.
