Sr. Govt officer drives just-retired Driver home

  • | Tuesday | 3rd June, 2025

In a rare and heartwarming gesture, deputy commissioner (DC) Ajay Nath Jha paid a unique tribute to his retiring driver, Satyendra Kumar Munna, who had served the administration with dedication for nearly 35 years. The farewell turned special when the DC arranged for the DCLR of Chas, Prabhash Dutta, to take the drivers seat and personally drop Munna home — with Munna seated in the backseat, where the DC usually sits.   Satyendra Kumar Munna had been steering government vehicles since the days before Bokaro became a separate district, beginning his service in Giridih district. His retirement was marked on Saturday with a ceremony organised by the Jharkhand State Non-Secretariat Staff Association, Bokaro Unit, at the Collectorate Auditorium.   While formal send-offs are customary for retiring government employees, DC Jhas thoughtful act left a lasting impression. After felicitating Munna with floral bouquets and retirement benefits, the DC ensured he received a ride home not as a driver, but as an honoured guest.   The symbolic reversal of roles — with the officer at the wheel — drew admiration from officials and staff alike. It served not just as a farewell, but as a powerful reminder of dignity, humility, and gratitude in public service.
