Monsoon arrives in State soaking 18 districts, Red alert issued for 2 days

The southwest monsoon made its much anticipated entry into Jharkhand on Tuesday, June 17, covering 18 out of the 24 districts and bringing immediate relief from the persistent heat. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the remaining parts comprising Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and some parts of Latehar, Hazaribagh and Koderma are likely to be covered in the next 1 to 2 days. The normal date for the onset of the rainy season for Jharkhand is June 15. Though late by two days, monsoon arrived with early morning showers in various parts of the State with rainfall activity expected to intensify in the coming days. As per the information shared by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, there is a possibility of extremely heavy rain in Dhanbad, Dumka, Jamtara, East Singhbhum, Saraikela Kharsawan, Bokaro and Ramgarh on June 18 and a red alert has also been issued for this. An orange alert stating heavy showers has been issued for Khunti, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Koderma Deoghar and West Singhbhum for June 18 while the districts of Gumla, Simdega, Lohardaga, Sabihganj, Pakur and Godda may receive heavy rain. A red alert for extremely heavy rain has been issued for June 19 for Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Bokaro Koderma and Giridih while Khunti, Deoghar, Dhanbad and Jamtara may experience very heavy rain signified the orange alert. A yellow alert stated heavy showers for Dumka, Godda, Pakur Sabihganj and Chatra. The districts of Garhwa, Chatra, Palamu and Latehar are likely to receive very heavy rain on June 20 highlighted the orange alert while Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar and Dumka are predicted to witness heavy showers. A yellow alert stating heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Garhwa, Chatra, Palamu Deoghar, Jamtara and Dumka for June 21. The bulletin also stated a significant drop in the maximum temperature levels in various parts of the State. As per the data released on Tuesday evening, in the last 24 hours, the maximum temperature in the State capital came down by 6.2 degrees and was recorded at 28.3 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Jamshedpur and Daltonganj dropped by 5.3 and 5.2 degrees and was observed at 29.9 and 33.2 Degree Celsius respectively. The highest rainfall of 55.5 mm was recorded in Simdega. From June 18 to June 21, the maximum temperature in Ranchi and its surrounding areas will be around 26- 27 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature is expected to be 23 degree Celsius.
