Heavy Showers likely to continue across State till June 25

The incessant rain which lashed across Jharkhand on June 18 and June 19 came to halt on Friday. However, the wet spell is likely to continue and as per the predictions, there is a possibility of heavy rain accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning activity in some districts till June 25. The Meteorological Center, Ranchi has stated that on June 21, parts of northeastern and northwestern Jharkhand are likely to experience heavy showers along with a statewide warning for thunderstorm that has also been issued. For June 22 and June 23, isolated places across the State may witness thunderstorm and lightning activity. On June 24, heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of northwest Jharkhand while on June 25 there is a possibility of heavy rain in some districts in the southern and central parts of the State. The information shared by the MET Centre stated that the well- marked low pressure area over northeast Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal lay over northeast Jharkhand and neighbouring areas as  of in the early morning hours of June 20 and it is likely to move slowly northwestwards in the next 24 hours. On June 20 and June 21 the northern parts of Jharkhand that are bordering with Bihar are likely to witness showers and some areas may also get heavy rainfall while the rest of the State will get light to moderate rain. The intensity of the system which was present has now weakened and in the next 24 hours it is expected to come down further, said Director, MET Centre Ranchi, Abhishek Anand. As per the data released by the MET Centre on Friday evening, on June 20, maximum rainfall was recorded in Latehar at 51 mm followed by West Singhbhum at 49.5 mm and Lohardaga at 33 mm. from June 1 to June 20, Jharkhand has received a total of 216 mm of rainfall as against the normal amount of 92.5 mm and has recorded a surplus of 133 mm. Due to torrential rainfall in Ranchi and adjacent districts for the last few days, waterlogging and mudflow conditions have been prevailing on many railway sections. Keeping in view the safety of the passengers and operational requirements, all possible steps are being taken by Ranchi Railway Division under the supervision of senior officials so that trains can operate safely. Trains have been affected due to bending of OHE (Overhead Equipment) pole due to mudflow between Keeta- Silli stations of Ranchi- Muri railway section and the operation of trains and repair of affected tracks is being done on war footing. As per the information shared by the Ranchi Railway several trains were rescheduled and diverted. Some of the passenger trains were cancelled too.
