  • | Tuesday | 24th June, 2025

In a proactive move to address the persistent issue of waterlogging in Ranchi, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation is on action mode. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains from 24 to 26 June. In view of this, an important meeting was held today under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav, in which many decisions were taken to save the entire city from waterlogging. The Municipal Corporation has put all the departments on high alert. If there is a situation of waterlogging anywhere, the team will immediately reach the spot and start the work of draining out the water. Separate teams have been formed in each zone to deal with water logging. The teams have been instructed to immediately start rescue operations in case of waterlogging. The Municipal Corporation has ordered to put all machines like JCB, Super Suction Machine, Diesel Pump in full mode. Machines will be sent first to areas where is more problem of water logging. The drains which are closed or not working for months should be opened immediately and brought to working condition. People can now directly complain about waterlogging by calling toll free number 18005701235. To prevent any accident in open drains, an order has been issued to put up barricades and warning boards at all danger zones. Meanwhile, torrential rain that lasted for about one and a half hours on Monday afternoon exposed the preparations of the Municipal Corporation and the District Administration. In many areas of the city, the water from the drains started flowing on the roads, due to which the main roads turned into ponds. The situation on Morhabadi Bazaar, Karamtoli Chowk, Radium Road, Karamtoli Talab Road and Karbala Chowk Road became so bad that it became difficult for people to even walk. Due to heavy rain, knee-deep water accumulated at Karamtoli Chowk. Two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers had to face a lot of problems due to waterlogging on the roads. Due to waterlogging, the speed of vehicles came to a halt and there was a long jam all around. A strong flow of water came on the roads from the direction of Saint Mary Bhawan located in front of Saint Johns School, due to which the road took the form of a river. After the rain, the traffic system of the city collapsed completely. The efforts made by the district administration to improve the traffic proved unsuccessful in the rain. There was a jam on the main roads of the city for hours. Vehicles were seen crawling in busy areas like Daily Market, Mission Chowk and Kachhari Chowk. Traffic policemen kept trying to remove the jam by blowing whistles and making gestures, but their efforts were ineffective due to waterlogging.
