Union Minister directs to increase capacity of Jhiri Biogas plant

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on the second day of his tour to Jharkhand visited the urban solid waste based compressed biogas plant operated by GAIL India located in Jhiri area of Ranchi on Thursday morning. Senior officials associated with the plant of GAIL India were also present on this occasion. The Minister was welcomed with a bouquet and a shawl on his arrival. A presentation, information was given on the work being done by this plant and the production capacity which has been in operation since January 2025, i.e. for the last six months. This plant is currently producing 2-2.5 tonnes of gas by processing about 40-50 tonnes of urban waste. However, the plant aims to get 150 tonnes of daily waste from Ranchi Municipal Corporation, which will produce 5 tonnes of compressed biogas (CBG) and 25 tonnes of bio manure. While visiting the plant, Minister Giriraj Singh directed the officials to produce it at full capacity and increase fertilizer production. He also stressed on increasing the distribution of the manufactured fertilizer in collaboration with IFFCO. He said that this is how the plant will be able to recover its cost price and become self-dependent and fully developed, so that we can achieve the Prime Ministers goal of a developed India. On this occasion, the Minister also planted a sapling in the plant premises located at Jhiri, and took stock of the various production activities of the plant. He encouraged the management and asked them to do better work so that when it is successful, this model can be implemented in other cities as well. The Jhiri CBG plant, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in October 2024, is designed to process 150 tonnes of wet waste daily, producing 5,000 kg of bio-CNG and 25 tonnes of fermented bio-manure.
