IMD predicts Heavy showers till July 1

Ever since the onset of the southwest monsoon in Jharkhand on June 17, monsoon has been active across the State. As per the latest prediction, heavy to very heavy showers are expected to occur at various places till the beginning of July. As per the information shared by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi on Friday, in the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall with thunder occurred at almost all the places in the State while heavy rainfall was also recorded at some places. The highest rainfall was 105 mm which was recorded in Khunti. It also stated that under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal and it is likely to move west- northwestwards across Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. This is likely to impact parts of Jharkhand in the coming days. The bulletin stated that on June 28, parts of the southern, central and north central regions of the State are likely to witness heavy showers. Thunderstorm activity along with gusty winds with a speed of up to 30 to 40 km per hour may also occur. The MET Centre, Ranchi has issued an orange alert signifying very heavy rain for June 29 for the north central and adjoining areas while the southern, central and northwest regions may witness heavy showers. The northwestern parts and adjacent regions are likely to receive heavy rain on June 30 while a prediction with heavy showers for the south western and nearby central parts has been made for July 1. A warning for thunderstorm activity with wind speed of up to 30 to 40 km per hour has been issued for all the days as well. The statistics released by the Department highlighted that from June 1 to June 26 the State has received a total of 289.2 mm of rainfall as against the normal amount of 160.2 mm and has recorded a surplus of 86%. During this period, the maximum rainfall in the State has been recorded in Ranchi which is 534.3 mm as against a normal of 168.6 mm. This is followed by Saraikela- Kharsawan which has received 438.6 mm as against 179.4 mm while Latehar received 436.7 mm as against the normal amount of 149.6 mm. From June 28 to July 1, the maximum temperature in the State capital and its surrounding areas will be around 28 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 23 to 24 degree Celsius.
