Leader of Opposition  and BJP state president Babulal Marandi condemned the police action on people protesting the district administrations alleged dismantling of a separate stage they had set up to commemorate Hul Diwas in their capacity as barbaric, asserting it revived memories of British rule and accusing the state government of undermining tribal heritage and rights. On people of Bhognadih, led by the Sido-Kanhu Murmu Hul Foundation (SKHF) and Aato Manjhi Vashi Bhognadih (AMVB), were protesting the district administrations alleged dismantling of a separate stage they had set up to commemorate Hul Diwas in their capacity. Bhognadih is the birthplace of tribal icons Sido and Kanhu Murmu, two brothers who led the Santhal rebellion against British rule and local landlords in 1855–56. Hul Diwas is observed on June 30 to commemorate the tribal uprising. Supporters of Sido-Kanhu Murmu Hul Foundation, were angry with the opening of the pandal for the program protesting the police action. When the matter escalated, the police resorted to lathi charge. Tear gas shells were also fired to control the situation. After this incident, Leader of Opposition and State President of Bharatiya Janata Party Babulal Marandi has given a sharp reaction. Talking to journalists in Giridih, Babulal said that this incident is the result of the stubbornness of the administration. Talking to journalists at his residence in Giridih, Babulal Marandi said that if the government and administration wanted, such an incident could have been avoided. He said that he has taken information about the entire incident. It has come to light that the family and the people of the village were going to worship. Since after the worship is done by the people of the village and the family, the further program takes place. The local administration there did not listen to the people going to worship and the matter escalated, lathi charge was done, tear gas shells were fired. Babulal said that he has spoken to the SP there regarding this matter. The SP said that the situation is under control. He said that I think that we remember the 1855 Hul Diwas. Here the administration and the government should decide that neither a government program nor a political partys program should be held within two to three km of the premises. Any person can go and offer flowers to the statue of Sido-Kanhu and then come back. Apart from this, if there is a fair, then it should be held. Babulala said that since on June 30, the people of the village, his family members worship first, then the rest of the people should worship so that this conflict ends. He said that todays incident could have been avoided if the administration wanted. He said that if there is a statue in the village, then the first right is of the family and the people of the village. Rural Development Minister of Jharkhand Government Deepika Pandey Singh has given a big statement on the Bhognadih incident. The minister says that there is a conspiracy of BJP leaders in this. He said this while talking to journalists in Dumka. The minister said that although there is no complete information about the incident, but the way many BJP leaders have been roaming in Santhal Pargana for the last one week, it is not possible that they have not hatched a conspiracy. On the statement given by Babulal Marandi that this incident happened due to the stubbornness of the administration, Deepika Pandey said that we celebrate Hul Diwas with faith, but the kind of things that are coming to light, it seems that this could be an incident to provoke people. The Congress leader even said that everyone knows who will benefit from such incidents.
