Agriculture Minister participates at Manthan of International Cooperative Year

  • | Tuesday | 1st July, 2025

Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey participated in the Manthan meeting of International Cooperative Year 2025 in Delhi towards realizing the concept of "Prosperity through Cooperation". Cooperative ministers of all the states and union territories of the country were present in this meeting. Tirkey put forward her suggestions in the context of Jharkhand with the understanding of the countrys Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah. The Minister said that Jharkhand is a backward state in the field of cooperation and this state needs special cooperation. For this, the central government needs to make policy interventions in many matters. The minister said that at present 44 hundred MPSC are working in the state, which is financially weak. The state government has divided them into four categories. Till now, they have been given Rs 28 crore as working capital. The Union Cooperative Ministry needs to provide financial help to some selected MPCS of Jharkhand. They can be strengthened by giving them working capital. The minister said that states like Jharkhand, which have been placed in the third category, will need working capital to move forward in the field of cooperation, so that training centers and regional institutions can be developed. There is talk of building big world-class warehouses in the country, but the truth is that there is a 57 per cent difference in Jharkhand. There is a plan to build warehouses to increase storage capacity. While placing a proposal before the Union Cooperative Minister, he said that the Central Government is talking about building warehouses on a 10 per cent contribution by PACS, but for a state like Jharkhand, which has been placed in the third category, even this 10 per cent contribution is not possible. The PACS of the state are not in that position. In such a situation, the Central Government should cooperate 100 per cent in the construction of warehouses. Tirkey said that currently the storage capacity of crops in the country is only 14 percent. In this situation, it is necessary to legalize the MSP of paddy. There are 8 lakh co-operative societies across the country but only 1500 ST/SC co-operative societies are being operated, whereas we talk about reservation for ST/SC in their elections. This society is very backward and some policy interventions will have to be done for them. The central government can play an important role in taking them forward by running a special scheme. Especially, these steps will have to be taken for the new committees that will be formed. The minister said that a training center is being operated in Phuddi, Jharkhand where better infrastructure is already present. This center should be developed as an NCCT training center. Jharkhand can do better in the production of oilseeds and pulses. For this, a regional center of NAFED should be established in Jharkhand. Doing this will increase production.
