Heavy rain likely, IMD issues alert for four days

  • | Monday | 7th July, 2025

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in monsoon activity across Jharkhand over the next four days, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in various parts of the state. According to the IMD, the spell of intense weather will begin from June 25, with heavy rainfall expected over south-western and north-eastern parts of Jharkhand. Isolated areas may also experience thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. The situation is likely to intensify further on June 26, with very heavy rainfall predicted in south-western districts, while heavy rain is also expected in southern and adjoining central regions. Gusty winds and lightning will remain a concern across isolated pockets. On June 27, southern and central parts of Jharkhand will again be at risk of heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning forecast for scattered locations across the state. The IMD has attributed the ongoing weather conditions to multiple atmospheric systems. The Northern Limit of the Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Dehradun, Shimla, Pathankot, Jammu, and further extends up to 34.0°N/71.0°E. Additionally, a trough line is currently extending from a cyclonic circulation over central Uttar Pradesh to northwest Bay of Bengal, running through Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and north Odisha — up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. Another upper air trough is active roughly along Longitude 87°E, north of Latitude 21°N, at 3.1 km above sea level. Authorities have advised residents, especially those in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to remain alert and take necessary precautions. District administrations across Jharkhand are on standby to respond to any emerging situations caused by the adverse weather.
