Union minister attends cleanliness drive in East Khasi Hills district

"As a part of the programme, the Union minister administered a pledge to the gathering for taking up cleanliness at all levels. SHILLONG: As a part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign , Union minister of state for external affairs MJ Akbar took part in a cleanliness drive at Mawklot Village in East Khasi Hills district on Tuesday.Speaking at the function organized by the District Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) in the district, Akbar said, "We must remember that the mission for cleanliness has a beginning, but no end. Women, who don't have access to personal toilets, undergo immense psychological and physical torture. When we talk of prosperity, we are not talking about wealth, but about giving the first benefits of economic progress to the villages that need the most. When we invest in women, we are investing in the future.
