Meghalaya miners rescue: Indian Navy divers enter flooded mine

SHILLONG: Indian Navy divers with special diving equipment including re-compression chamber and remotely-operated vehicles capable of searching underwater have joined the operation to rescue 15 miners who were trapped inside an illegal and flooded coal mine at in Lumthari village of the East Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya.Expert Navy divers have begun to enter the coal mine after pumping out gallons of water from it.The miners had descended into the coal pit on December 13 last and since then have not been traced despite rescue operations by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) as the mine is flooded by deep water from a nearby river and other abandoned coal mines.
