National Girl Child Day observed in Shillong City

Staff CorrespondentShillong: The National Girl Child Day was observed in the city on Friday. The programme was organized by the District Task Force on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, East Khasi Hills district in collaboration with the office of the District Programme Officer, ICDS, East Khasi Hills district at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here. The programme was also attended by M War Nongbri, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson, District Task Force, East Khasi Hills, officials from the Social Welfare, Health and Education departments among others. Later, Nampui also led the gathering in administered the pledge on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. The programme was organized by the District Task Force on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, East Khasi Hills district in collaboration with the office of the District Programme Officer, ICDS, East Khasi Hills district at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here. MN Nampui, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The programme was also attended by M War Nongbri, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson, District Task Force, East Khasi Hills, officials from the Social Welfare, Health and Education departments among others. Speaking on the occasion, Nampui said that the objective of the programme is to create awareness among the people about the problems faced by the girl child in society and to remove the inequalities faced by them. Highlighting the importance of healthcare and overall wellbeing of children, Nampui urged upon the parents to come forward and administer routine immunization to their children. Later, Nampui also led the gathering in administered the pledge on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. Other highlights of the day included an exhibition-cum-sales of women SHGs products from different blocks of the district, demonstration on self-defence, Sukanya Samridhi Yojana kiosk, exhibition and demonstration of vocational training products, demonstration of hand washing and pink toilet, growth monitoring of girl child, recipe demonstration and competition, baby show, dancing and singing competition and games held in the premises of the State Central Library premises.
